Awon & Phoniks - Return to the Golden Era: Instrumentals


On July 30th, 2013 Awon & Phoniks released their debut album "Return to the Golden Era", a project which was proclaimed by many (1, 2, 3, 4) as one of the best hip hop releases of 2013. To celebrate the one year anniversary of the album that opened so many doors for the duo, they are bringing fans a duel package consisting of the instrumentals from the original LP as well as a remix album of all 11-cuts redone by Portland, ME producer and remixologist Phoniks. The project's will be available as pay-what-you-want downloads through http://awonandphoniks.bandcamp.com as well as on iTunes, Amazon and all major streaming services. All proceeds from the two releases will go towards the recording of the follow-up LP from Awon & Phoniks slated for release in 2015.

Producer Yoni Den shares the release "Not What I Call Bonk Wave Volume 001" by Bonk Knob Records . So the compilation was based around this idea of making music which is or isn’t bonk wave, and the whole thing is very vague, nobody knows what is bonk wave or what is not, so every artist just makes music! Haha! It’s been a really fun project. The name of the compilation also pays homage to those old cheap pop compilations “Now That’s What I Call Music” , and the artwork is inspired by some of the early cover art from those, with the artists listed on the front and all that. Bonk Knob Records - Not What I Call Bonk Wave - Volume 002 (Disc B)

A compilation of Electronic Music which is or is not #BonkWave only this time it's night time. I’m sure you remember the Bonk Wave compilation in August. It was fun stuff, people seemed to enjoy it, and a few musicians expressed interest in being involved on a second one, so Yoni Den setup an Open submission, with a simple brief “original music which is or is not bonkwave” and gave the project the subtitle “Bonkwave Nights” as a kind of suggestion of theme. The whole Bonk Wave thing originated on Mastodon , and that is where most of the posting and conversation is, but it does stretch out into a few other independent music communities like Lines and STBB Forever .
