TheNASA8 - NASA8+ Vol.11


Artists are constantly evolving the process of releasing music. In the case of Maryland’sTheNASA8 (whose members have recently had placements with Mick Jenkins), are back from a short hiatus with the 11th volume of their bi-monthly beat tape series titled “NASA8+”. TheNASA8 has such a diverse approach to music you can never predict what sounds each tape will come with from classic Boom Bap to New Wave EDM and everything in between.

The moment you press play on NASA8+ Vol.11 you understand how talented the NASA8’s production really is. From weekend bangers like “SubBass” by Trelmix to neck breaking cuts like “As Listed” by TEK.LUN. With 2 beats per member they create a hearty 16 track (all the beats are up for sale also) tape that boasts all the originality and style expected from such a melting pot of sounds. What impresses me most about the “NASA8+” series is how the tape flows with no track sounding the same or out of place. The whole tape plays like a well-constructed and calculated album with all the tracks just happening to be up for sale. They don’t just grab a bunch of dope beats and throw them together. TheNASA8 crafts a special listening experience to showcase all their talents respectively

Producer Yoni Den shares the release "Not What I Call Bonk Wave Volume 001" by Bonk Knob Records . So the compilation was based around this idea of making music which is or isn’t bonk wave, and the whole thing is very vague, nobody knows what is bonk wave or what is not, so every artist just makes music! Haha! It’s been a really fun project. The name of the compilation also pays homage to those old cheap pop compilations “Now That’s What I Call Music” , and the artwork is inspired by some of the early cover art from those, with the artists listed on the front and all that. Bonk Knob Records - Not What I Call Bonk Wave - Volume 002 (Disc B)

A compilation of Electronic Music which is or is not #BonkWave only this time it's night time. I’m sure you remember the Bonk Wave compilation in August. It was fun stuff, people seemed to enjoy it, and a few musicians expressed interest in being involved on a second one, so Yoni Den setup an Open submission, with a simple brief “original music which is or is not bonkwave” and gave the project the subtitle “Bonkwave Nights” as a kind of suggestion of theme. The whole Bonk Wave thing originated on Mastodon , and that is where most of the posting and conversation is, but it does stretch out into a few other independent music communities like Lines and STBB Forever .
