J. Depina - What's The Sample? (EP)


Acclaimed producer J. Depina’s latest instrumental opus, What’s The Sample?, finds the gifted beatsmith embarking on a new journey. Whereas previous projects were littered with dusty, crate-dug samples from his personal library, Depina chose to put the LPs down and instead focus on his own original compositions. The result is a beautifully structured, organic, and sonically refreshing project from this rising beatsmith.

What’s The Sample? is available now through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms via Crisis Center Collective.

Producer Yoni Den shares the release "Not What I Call Bonk Wave Volume 001" by Bonk Knob Records . So the compilation was based around this idea of making music which is or isn’t bonk wave, and the whole thing is very vague, nobody knows what is bonk wave or what is not, so every artist just makes music! Haha! It’s been a really fun project. The name of the compilation also pays homage to those old cheap pop compilations “Now That’s What I Call Music” , and the artwork is inspired by some of the early cover art from those, with the artists listed on the front and all that. Bonk Knob Records - Not What I Call Bonk Wave - Volume 002 (Disc B)

A compilation of Electronic Music which is or is not #BonkWave only this time it's night time. I’m sure you remember the Bonk Wave compilation in August. It was fun stuff, people seemed to enjoy it, and a few musicians expressed interest in being involved on a second one, so Yoni Den setup an Open submission, with a simple brief “original music which is or is not bonkwave” and gave the project the subtitle “Bonkwave Nights” as a kind of suggestion of theme. The whole Bonk Wave thing originated on Mastodon , and that is where most of the posting and conversation is, but it does stretch out into a few other independent music communities like Lines and STBB Forever .
