Mauricio Dawid - Tiene que llover

“Tiene que llover”, Mauricio Dawid's second album, is the result of a session held in August 2022 at Espacio Aguaribay studio. Before the recording, the quartet (completed by Carto Brandán on drums, Sergio Wagner on trumpet and flügelhorn, and Santiago Leibson on piano) had made a few live performances in which they had mainly played standards. Dawid knew that before Leibson returned to the United States, where he had been living for years, they had to leave a record of the group's sound. That is the spirit of Tiene que llover, to be rather a document of a moment and a group of people than a carefully crafted work. The studio of choice was Espacio Aguaribay, which houses one of the best pianos you can find in Buenos Aires. The idea was to make the sound as fresh and spontaneous as possible, so only a few takes were done for each of the songs (which, by the way, Dawid's accompanists learned on the spot). That freshness is one of the highlights of the album, along with the versatility of the musicians, the wide variety of influences and approaches to composition and performance.
