Sun Ra - Nuclear War (Bassically Kick & Bass Rerub)


Bassically wires up a pulsing dancefloor rework of Sun Ra's wry, apocalyptic 1980s anthem, "Nuclear War".Respectful of the original, retaining its bluesy, languid frame, Bassically ups the tempo in his 'Kick and Bass Re-rub'. Sun Ra's jazz-punk classic confronts impending doom with tongue-in-cheek funkiness and surprising composure, which are reinforced by Bassically's buoyant reinterpretation. Even after the end of the World, there are other worlds.

If you aren’t yet familiar with Bassically, this is a great way to introduce yourself to their sound which crafts sophisticated techno and compulsive house music out of LIVE instrumentation. The result whether live or on this release recorded form is a dazzling cut that takes its cue from the early electronic sounds of Detroit, Berlin, and London.

Producer Yoni Den shares the release "Not What I Call Bonk Wave Volume 001" by Bonk Knob Records . So the compilation was based around this idea of making music which is or isn’t bonk wave, and the whole thing is very vague, nobody knows what is bonk wave or what is not, so every artist just makes music! Haha! It’s been a really fun project. The name of the compilation also pays homage to those old cheap pop compilations “Now That’s What I Call Music” , and the artwork is inspired by some of the early cover art from those, with the artists listed on the front and all that. Bonk Knob Records - Not What I Call Bonk Wave - Volume 002 (Disc B)

A compilation of Electronic Music which is or is not #BonkWave only this time it's night time. I’m sure you remember the Bonk Wave compilation in August. It was fun stuff, people seemed to enjoy it, and a few musicians expressed interest in being involved on a second one, so Yoni Den setup an Open submission, with a simple brief “original music which is or is not bonkwave” and gave the project the subtitle “Bonkwave Nights” as a kind of suggestion of theme. The whole Bonk Wave thing originated on Mastodon , and that is where most of the posting and conversation is, but it does stretch out into a few other independent music communities like Lines and STBB Forever .
