DoomCannon - Renaissance


London-based composer, producer & multi-instrumentalist DoomCannon shares his release "Renaissance". The album is a meticulously crafted debut album journeying through an awakening and reimagining of the young Black British experience. Garnering early support from Gilles Peterson & Tom Ravenscroft at BBC 6Music, Jazz FM, Worldwide FM, NTS, Rinse France, FIP, Radio Nova plus features on Spotify and Apple.

"Renaissance" signifies the birth of a new era in DoomCannon’s trajectory, inspired by an accumulation of experiences over the past four years and defined by significant events like the global pandemic to the worldwide outcry of the Black Lives Matter movement in the summer of 2020. DoomCannon aspired to create a concept album, fashioning accessible music and home to a powerful universal message of equality and humanity, where listeners are invited to conceive a world beyond the society we currently live in. A world far from the UK’s colonial past and present, where human experience and compassion is at the epicentre of Government agendas, free from systemic injustice - where equality and community spirit reigns supreme.

Producer Yoni Den shares the release "Not What I Call Bonk Wave Volume 001" by Bonk Knob Records . So the compilation was based around this idea of making music which is or isn’t bonk wave, and the whole thing is very vague, nobody knows what is bonk wave or what is not, so every artist just makes music! Haha! It’s been a really fun project. The name of the compilation also pays homage to those old cheap pop compilations “Now That’s What I Call Music” , and the artwork is inspired by some of the early cover art from those, with the artists listed on the front and all that. The shouting man or music cop is a bonk wave motif! Bonk Knob Records - Not What I Call Bonk Wave - Volume 002 (Disc B)

A compilation of Electronic Music which is or is not #BonkWave only this time it's night time. I’m sure you remember the Bonk Wave compilation in August. It was fun stuff, people seemed to enjoy it, and a few musicians expressed interest in being involved on a second one, so Yoni Den setup an Open submission, with a simple brief “original music which is or is not bonkwave” and gave the project the subtitle “Bonkwave Nights” as a kind of suggestion of theme. The whole Bonk Wave thing originated on Mastodon , and that is where most of the posting and conversation is, but it does stretch out into a few other independent music communities like Lines and STBB Forever .
