Millennium Jazz Music x DJ Mr Lob - The Big Payback Vol​.​6: Black Market


The Big Payback Vol.6 is the biggest volume yet as the MJM artists linked with various musicians and creative friends who were keen to contribute to this special. For most of the artists involved it was a no brainer to commit to this dedication, while others were simply happy to be involved once they heard about the idea and the kind of individual MJM were out to salute.

So this one goes out to the one and only DJ Mr Lob (Melbourne, Australia). It would be hard to find a single DJ who has played and supported more of MJM's material in their shows over the years than this man, and MJM is forever grateful. Long live the Lob!!!

Producer Yoni Den shares the release "Not What I Call Bonk Wave Volume 001" by Bonk Knob Records . So the compilation was based around this idea of making music which is or isn’t bonk wave, and the whole thing is very vague, nobody knows what is bonk wave or what is not, so every artist just makes music! Haha! It’s been a really fun project. The name of the compilation also pays homage to those old cheap pop compilations “Now That’s What I Call Music” , and the artwork is inspired by some of the early cover art from those, with the artists listed on the front and all that. Bonk Knob Records - Not What I Call Bonk Wave - Volume 002 (Disc B)

A compilation of Electronic Music which is or is not #BonkWave only this time it's night time. I’m sure you remember the Bonk Wave compilation in August. It was fun stuff, people seemed to enjoy it, and a few musicians expressed interest in being involved on a second one, so Yoni Den setup an Open submission, with a simple brief “original music which is or is not bonkwave” and gave the project the subtitle “Bonkwave Nights” as a kind of suggestion of theme. The whole Bonk Wave thing originated on Mastodon , and that is where most of the posting and conversation is, but it does stretch out into a few other independent music communities like Lines and STBB Forever .
